final fun fun fun thoughts
I'm a little pressed for time but wanted to throw out some final thoughts on fun fun fun fest.

Overall it was a good festival, I give it 2 out of the 3 funs.

I was blown away by DJ Z Trip on Saturday night. I danced my ass off. I know he's one of the top DJ/turntablist/mashups around, but he really blew me away. He mashed up Tool, Guns n Roses, ACDC, Daft Punk, oldies, Jay-Z etc. Imagine my Halloween playlist mashed up. With Jay Z rapping over Tool and Aerosmith singing over dance beats and it flowing together and never getting boring. I missed most of the Dead Milkmen because I didn't want to leave his set. He finished with an audience sing-a-long of Bohemian Rhapsody-- and that is just fucking cool. He was the best thing I saw.

I think every band made a dumb "fun fun fun" joke and almost every band made a pro-Obama comment. I get a little uncomfortable with the group think mentality and political ra-ra. But I do have to say most of it was positive and shallow (most of it was `yay we have a smart, black president`).

Bad Brains was Bad Brains, I'm not the biggest fan -- I like that circle dot album, but HR is just a wacked out dude. They were all right, I left during their set.

The outdoor comedy was a bit of a bust. The crowd wasn't too bad, but festival comedy and comedy in the day time is just weird.

Trail of the dead suck ass. Seriously. Two drummers playing the same beat for an hour is lame. They were extremely boring -- but then again I'm not usually into "jam bands". Caught a song from Deerhoof. Was not impressed. Also was extremely disappointed by All and Swinging Utters -- they blew.

Atmosphere rocked the crowd. Rival Schools sounded really good. Adolescents sounded and played great. Krumbums sounded really good too. I also enjoyed Hawnay Troof (bit of a weirdo). But the weirdness cannot compete with Kool Keith/Dr Dooom/Dr Octagon (the same dude for those that don't know). His rhymes were impressive, and supposedly one of them was straight up improv. He played a lot of 2 minute (1 verse/1 chorus) songs, which was weird, but it did help keep the set moving.

The beer selection was awful -- Miller Lite, MGD or Fosters ($5 for 16oz). But the booze selection included rum, vodka, tequila and Dewars ($5-$6 for 8oz?). The food was good and decently priced, a wide range of hot dogs, nachos, salads, vegan, pulled pork, hot wings, tacos, pizza and rudy's bbq.

The dirt/dust kicked up at Waterloo Park was awful. I had black boogers when I came home and thats just gross. But overall it was a good time. Day one was much better than I expected and day two was not as good as I expected. Will I go again? It depends on the lineup.
